'Saint' class details, 2900 - 2924

Built with taper boilers unless specified.

2900  William Dean. Prototype of what was to become the Saint class. Built unnamed with parallel boiler February 1902 and numbered 100. First shed allocation Bristol, Bath Road. Named Dean June 1902. Renamed William Dean November 1902. Fitted with half-cone boiler June 1903, replaced with a full-cone boiler February 1912. Superheated April 1910. Last shed allocation Chester. Withdrawn June 1932.

2901  Lady Superior. Built unnamed May 1906 with half-cone boiler. First shed allocation Bristol, Bath Road. Named October 1906. Superheated May 1909. Full-cone boiler fitted September 1909. Last shed allocation Cardiff Canton. Withdrawn April 1933.

2902  Lady of the Lake. Built unnamed May 1906. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Named April 1907. Fitted with half-cone boiler September 1907, but reverted to full-cone October 1908. Superheated February 1910. When the locomotive was to haul the first GWR two-hour train from Birmingham to Paddington in July 1910, a well-wisher threw a horseshoe onto the footplate. This horseshoe was then fitted on the engine until its withdrawal. Fitted with half-cone boiler September 1913, reverted back to full-cone August 1916. Outside steam pipes fitted December 1943. Last shed allocation Leamington. Withdrawn August 1949.

2903  Lady of Lyons. Built unnamed May 1906. First shed allocation Plymouth Laira. Named April 1907. Fitted with half-cone boiler March 1909, but reverted to full-cone September 1909. Superheated August 1910. Fitted with half-cone boiler July 1920, reverted back to full-cone July 1922. Outside steam pipes fitted November 1930. Last shed allocation Tyseley. Withdrawn November 1949.

2904  Lady Godiva. Built unnamed May 1906 with half-cone boiler. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Named April 1907. Fitted with full-cone boiler September 1907. Superheated July 1910. Last shed allocation Shrewsbury. Withdrawn October 1932.

2905  Lady Macbeth. Built unnamed May 1906 with half-cone boiler. First shed allocation Newton Abbot. Named April 1907.  Fitted with full-cone boiler September 1907. Replaced with half-cone boiler January 1909, but reverted to full-cone boiler with superheating November 1909. Outside steam pipes fitted March 1931. Last shed allocation Cardiff Canton. Withdrawn April 1948.

2906  Lady of Lynn. Built unnamed May 1906 with half-cone boiler. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Named May 1907.  Fitted with full-cone boiler September 1907 and superheated July 1910. Outside steam pipes fitted October 1935. August 1950 and last shed allocation Cardiff Canton. Withdrawn August 1952.

2907  Lady Disdain. Built unnamed May 1906. First shed allocation Bristol, Bath Road. Named April 1907. Superheated February 1910. Last shed allocation Newport. Withdrawn July 1933.

2908  Lady of Quality. Built unnamed May 1906. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Named May 1907. Superheated April 1911. Outside steam pipes fitted December 1935. August 1950 and last shed allocation Swindon. Withdrawn December 1950.

2909  Lady of Provence. Built unnamed May 1906. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Named May 1907. Superheated May 1911. Half-cone boiler fitted November 1912, but reverted to full-cone August 1913. Half-cone boiler fitted February 1916, reverted back to full-cone July 1917. Last shed allocation Wolverhampton. Withdrawn November 1931.

2910  Lady of Shalott. Built unnamed May 1906. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Named May 1907. Half-cone boiler fitted January 1908. Superheated January 1910. Reverted to full-cone boiler January 1912. Last shed allocation Westbury. Withdrawn October 1931.

2911  Saint Agatha. Built August 1907. First shed allocation Bristol, Bath Road. Superheated December 1910. Half-cone boiler fitted October 1911, but reverted to full-cone boiler November 1912. Last shed allocation Taunton. Withdrawn March 1935.

2912  Saint Ambrose. Built August 1907. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Fitted with half-cone boiler and superheated June 1910. Reverted to full-cone boiler August 1912. Outside steam pipes fitted April 1931. August 1950 and last shed allocation Weymouth. Withdrawn February 1951.

2913  Saint Andrew. Built August 1907. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Half-cone boiler and superheater fitted October 1909. Reverted to full-cone boiler April 1911. Last shed allocation Swindon. Withdrawn May 1948.

2914  Saint Augustine. Built August 1907. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Half-cone boiler and superheater fitted June 1912. Reverted to full-cone boiler November 1914. Last shed allocation Weymouth. Withdrawn January 1946.

2915  Saint Bartholomew. Built August 1907. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Half-cone boiler fitted April 1909. Superheated May 1910. Reverted to full-cone boiler December 1911. August 1950 and last shed allocation Chester. Withdrawn October 1950.

2916  Saint Benedict. Built August 1907. First shed allocation Bristol, Bath Road. Half-cone boiler fitted January 1910. Reverted to full-cone boiler with superheater January 1912. Outside steam pipes fitted February 1943. Last shed allocation Tyseley. Withdrawn July 1948.

2917  Saint Bernard. Built August 1907. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Half-cone boiler and superheater fitted November 1909. Reverted to full-cone boiler June 1911. Last shed allocation Cardiff Canton. Withdrawn October 1934.

2918  Saint Catherine. Built August 1907. First shed allocation Cardiff Canton. Half-cone boiler fitted November 1909, but reverted to full-cone boiler January 1911. Superheated May 1912. Outside steam pipes fitted February 1931. Last shed allocation Leamington. Withdrawn February 1935.

2919  Saint Cuthbert. Built as Saint Cecelia September 1907. First shed allocation Cardiff Canton. Renamed October 1907. Half-cone boiler fitted September 1908, but reverted to full-cone boiler with superheater August 1910. Last shed allocation Taunton. Withdrawn February 1932.

2920  Saint David. Built September 1907. First shed allocation Cardiff Canton. Superheated October 1909. Half-cone boiler fitted June 1911, but reverted to full-cone boiler October 1914. Outside steam pipes fitted December 1932. August 1950 and last shed allocation Hereford. Withdrawn October 1953.

2921  Saint Dunstan. Built September 1907. First shed allocation Bristol, Bath Road. Half-cone boiler fitted January 1910. Superheated January 1912. Reverted to full-cone boiler March 1913. Half-cone boiler fitted February 1915, but reverted back to full-cone boiler December 1916. Last shed allocation Banbury. Withdrawn December 1945.

2922  Saint Gabriel. Built September 1907. First shed allocation Plymouth Laira. Superheated October 1908 by Swindon No. 2 superheater, the only 4-6-0 GWR locomotive using this superheater . Last shed allocation Severn Tunnel Junction. Withdrawn December 1944.

2923  Saint George. Built September 1907. First shed allocation Plymouth Laira. Superheated April 1911. Last shed allocation Bristol, Bath Road. Withdrawn October 1934.

2924  Saint Helena. Built September 1907. First shed allocation Old Oak Common. Superheated June 1910. Outside steam pipes fitted September 1933. Last shed allocation Hereford. Withdrawn March 1950.

Please note that table shows changes in boiler type only.
For example, 4003 Lode Star was withdrawn in 1951 with its seventeenth boiler,
but as all were of the full-cone type, no boiler changes are shown.
