All engines of 'Bird' class built with full cone boilers.

3441  Blackbird. Built May 1909 as number 3731. Fitted with half-cone boiler with superheater December 1911. Replaced with full-cone boiler November 1913. May 1922 shed alocation Hereford. January 1948 shed allocation Plymouth Laira. Withdrawn February 1949.

3442  Bullfinch. Built May 1909 as number 3732. Superheater fitted October 1911. May 1922 shed alocation Gloucester. January 1948 and last shed allocation Shrewsbury. Withdrawn July 1948.

3443  Chaffinch. Built May 1909 as number 3733. Superheater fitted January 1911. Fitted with half-cone boiler February 1913. Replaced with full-cone boiler February 1916. Reverted back to half-cone boiler May 1919. Replaced with full-cone boiler September 1921. May 1922 shed alocation Swindon. January 1948 and last shed allocation Taunton. Withdrawn May 1949.

3444  Cormorant. Built May 1909 as number 3734. Superheater fitted April 1911. Fitted with half-cone boiler April 1913. Replaced with full-cone boiler December 1915. May 1922 shed alocation Hereford. January 1948 shed allocation Taunton. Withdrawn June 1951.

3445  Flamingo. Built May 1909 as number 3735. Fitted with half-cone boiler with superheater July 1911. Replaced with full-cone boiler December 1913. May 1922 shed alocation Banbury. January 1948 shed allocation Plymouth Laira. Last shed allocation Gloucester. Withdrawn October 1948.

3454  Skylark. Built January 1910 as number 3744. Superheater fitted June 1911. Fitted with half-cone boiler July 1915. Replaced with full-cone boiler April 1918. May 1922 shed alocation Neyland. January 1948 shed allocation Hereford. Last shed allocation Reading. Withdrawn November 1951.

3455  Starling. Built January 1910 as number 3745. Superheater fitted May 1912. Fitted with half-cone boiler September 1918. Replaced with full-cone boiler January 1921. May 1922 shed alocation Chester. January 1948 shed allocation Neath. Last shed allocation Worcester. Withdrawn June 1950.


Please note that table shows changes in boiler type only.
For example, 4003 Lode Star was withdrawn in 1951 with its seventeenth boiler,
but as all were of the full-cone type, no boiler changes are shown.
